School district approves iPads for students | News | Mansfield News-Mirror:

"The school board Tuesday night unanimously approved plans to purchase 10,720 Apple iPad tablet computers for all high school students and teachers next school year.

The $6.5 million program will be funded from the district’s $96.7 million fund balance, or reserve fund, rather then 2006 bond interest earnings, Apple financing or a combination of other funds from existing programs that the board considered.

Like the other options, dipping into the budget reserve fund fulfills the staff’s promises since the first talks that the purchase would not impact the district’s general operating budget."
